Integrated Children’s Therapy Office

When Mandy Alvarez opened her new Integrated Children’s office in Coral Gables, my friend and artist Sara Kaplan and I were thrilled to be anointed the new artistic directors for the space. The concept was to have fun, bright colors in the waiting rooms that included a cast of characters engaged in different outdoor activities in and around Florida. Our goal was for the therapists to have fun with and even utilize the pictures during the therapy sessions with children.

THE WAITING LOBBY
The cast of characters in the large collage works are preparing for and then celebrating a dance party. Sara watercolored and then resined the accompanying pieces.

THE MURAL
The mural on the hallway depicts skateboarders dipping and jumping off a large-scale map of Florida.

DOORS
We spray painted the numbers and incorporated the themes for each room by hand.

INDIVIDUAL WAITING ROOMS
Each room contains a collection of bright, watercolored pieces, with a collage of anindividual child engaged in an activity with nature over it.

OPEN GYM PIECE
This large mural was made for the open gym, where the theme was “camping” in Florida.
